Chenna Poda (Cheese Cake From Odisha)......:)

Today is  Ratha Jatra Festival . Ratha Jatra (Oriya: ରଥଯାତ୍ରା)  is a huge Hindu festival associated with Lord Jagannath held at Puri in the state of OdishaIndia .  So today I prepare Odisha spacial sweet-Chenna Poda(Cheese Cake) & enjoying Ratha Jatra with this delicious sweet dish. This one is a  popular and wonderfully tasty cheese sweet from Odisha. Chenna poda literally means burnt cheese.Its is so simple,easy and absolutely delicious.
My maternal uncle house in Digha...Digha is a seaside resort town in the Border of West Bengal & Odisha, India.  It is the most popular sea resort in the West Bengal....This site people also too much like this sweet...This one is one of my favorite sweet.I hope all of you also like this sweet dish.Here is the recipe.


Ingredients:-

  • Paneer/Ricotta Cheese-  2 cups (I using homemade paneer)
  • Sooji/Semolina-2 tbsp
  • Sugar-7 /8 tbsp (Sweeten per your taste)
  • Brown sugar - 2 tsp(For Caramelized)
  • Ghee-4 tsp
  • Milk-2 tbsp
  • Raisins- few 
  • Cashew -3/4 small pieces
  • Almond -3/4 small pieces 
  • Cardamom powder-1/4 tsp (optional)
  • Baking powder - 1/4 tsp


    Method:-
    1. At first In a big bowl mix well  chhena/Cottage cheese with the semolina/sooji, sugar and 2 tsp of ghee. Till becomes a soft and smooth dough.
    2.  Now add the  Milk,cardamom powder,Dry fruits and baking powder and knead it for 3-4 minutes.
    3. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
    4. To get a caramelized effect on the top,apply 2 tsp of ghee or butter to the bottom of the baking dish,sprinkle with brown sugar and then put in the oven  for a few minutes to melt the sugar.Spread the melted sugar evenly.
    5. Now pour the chenna mixture over the caramelized sugar.
    6. Bake the chenna mixture for 40 to 45 minutes until the top turns to light brown . Check with Insert a toothpick/Fork. When the toothpick/Fork comes out clean it's done.


    7. Cool for 20 minutes,then turn it upside down. Cut into pieces with a knife like cutting a cake & serve.
